About Rob

A First Responder Informed Path to Clinical Care

Robert Morrison James is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Therapist at Chateau Health & Wellness, bringing both professional expertise and lived experience into his work with clients in recovery. His path into behavioral health was shaped by firsthand public service.

Before transitioning into clinical practice, Robert worked as a corrections officer, which gave him a grounded understanding of cumulative stress, trauma exposure, and the identity challenges that often come with serving in high responsibility roles.

Because he understands the culture and reality of public service, Robert connects with clients in a way that feels credible and respectful.

He recognizes that many first responders have spent years putting others first, and that healing often requires rebuilding the parts of life that were set aside along the way.

Therapeutic Work Focused on Identity, Purpose, and Recovery

At Chateau, Robert works closely with clients to help them recover from the emotional toll of long term service, chronic stress, and trauma related experiences.

His work centers on restoring a sense of identity, purpose, and satisfaction in life, especially for individuals who feel disconnected from who they are outside of their profession.

He is particularly passionate about helping clients reconnect with core values, strengthen relationships, and build a sustainable recovery lifestyle that supports long term mental health.

Through this process, clients are encouraged to move beyond survival mode and toward a life that feels meaningful again.

Modalities and Clinical Approach

Robert’s clinical approach is evidence based, client centered, and practical. He blends empathy with structure, helping clients translate insight into action without losing sight of their individual pace and needs.

He regularly uses the following therapeutic modalities and approaches:

In addition, Robert often serves as a mentor and life coach, supporting clients as they apply therapeutic principles to daily routines, communication, and decision making.

Lived Experience and Cultural Understanding

Robert brings additional depth to his work through his own recovery journey, paired with extensive training in trauma and stress related disorders.

He understands the language, dark humor, and internal expectations common in first responder environments, while still holding a steady focus on emotional regulation, healthy boundaries, and long term resilience.

What he finds most rewarding is watching clients regain their sense of self and rediscover fulfillment after years of sacrifice.

He believes recovery is built through consistent, intentional steps over time, not a single breakthrough moment.

Life Outside the Therapy Room

Outside of work, Robert enjoys road trips with his family and staying active through strongman training, Highland Games, cycling, and gardening.

These interests reflect the balance, discipline, and resilience he encourages in the clients he serves.
